Seattle, 2013 Feb 10

On Sunday, February 10, 2013, Speed Rack headed to the Pacific Northwest. This year Seattle played host, however a bus of Portland competitors and fans came up to support and cheer on their hometown favorites. Ladies from all over Washington came to compete including last year's Miss Speed Rack Portland, Missy Cross, who bartends at Sun Liquors in Seattle.
The Century Ballroom was packed as soon as the doors opened. Over 450, guests were treated to sponsors’ punches and cocktails, as well as beer and nonalcoholic offerings. Host Colin Appiah braved a New York snow storm to get to the west coast for his debut as host. Appiah previously judged in Boston. Our competitors were supported by a strong group of barbacks from Seattle's top bars including Jim Romdell, Michael Gary, and Ben Perri.
The impressive panel of judges included veteran judges Audrey Saunders and Kathy Casey, and first timers Anu Apte (Season 1 Competitor), and Drink Boy Robert Hess.
Six heated battles ensued, until we were down to the final two: Lacy Hawkins vs. Missy Cross, mirroring the same final round as last year in Portland. The competition was close, but this time Lacy Hawkins prevailed, suggesting that in the Pacific Northwest perhaps home field is not an advantage.
A fun time was had by all, and most importantly, over $6,500 was raised for breast cancer research, education and prevention!
